Day 9: An echo of frost (cento)

For this is love and nothing else is love.
A quiet light, and then not even that
by measure. It was word and note.
It faltered: I could see it hesitate
to make it root again and grow afresh
up from the tangle of withered weeds.
Something down there to smile at in the dust
and truly it was fair enough for flowers
and saved some part
whose leaves already are burnt with frost.
